Players will experience 2 fun hours of learning from outstanding coaches and players from around the area to help them develop the skills to be great softball players.

Please take the time to register players early to help us get the spring 2013 Softball Season off on the right foot.

US household debt burden hits 29-year low

9 hrs.

WASHINGTON --?A measure of the burden of U.S. household debt tumbled in the third quarter to its lowest level in 29 years, which should help free up money for consumer spending and support the economy.

The household debt service ratio -- an estimate of the share of debt payments to disposable personal income -- fell to 10.61 percent from 10.72 percent in the second quarter, the Federal Reserve said on Thursday.

It was the lowest level since the fourth quarter of 1983.

"Consumers have more money in their pockets to spend, which should be positive for the economic recovery going forward," said Gennadiy Goldberg, an economist at TD Securities in New York.

U.S. households built up a massive debt load as the housing bubble expanded and efforts to pay down those debts have been a restraint on spending and the economy's recovery.

The debt service ratio, which takes into account outstanding mortgage and consumer debt, peaked in the third quarter of 2007, shortly before the economy tipped into recession.

The Fed has sought to help consumers dig out by keeping interest rates near record lows. It has held overnight rates near zero since December 2008 and has bought around $2.4 trillion in bonds to further lower borrowing costs.

Even though households are now in better shape, analysts caution that consumer spending could stall if Congress fails to prevent higher taxes from taking hold next year.

An even broader measure of financial obligations that includes automobile lease payments and the cost of renting a home also fell in the third quarter, dropping to 15.74 percent of disposable income -- the lowest level since the first quarter of 1984.

That drop reflected an easier burden for homeowners as mortgage debt payments dropped to 8.90 percent of disposable income in the third quarter, the lowest in 11 years.

Both the overall homeowners measure and separate mortgage gauge peaked in the third quarter of 2007.

"You have a lot of people refinancing their mortgages at lower rates," Goldberg said.

In contrast, the relative cost of rent rose to its highest level since the first quarter of 2010.

The weak housing market has led Americans away from home ownership and toward renting, pushing up rents. At the same time, a modest economic recovery has encouraged some people who had moved in with family and friends to seek their own lodgings, further strengthening the rental market.

While a lightening of household debt burden puts the recovery on firmer ground, it also highlights a hesitance to take on new debt, which could be an obstacle to spending.

"We all (would) like to see better growth in credit, banks being more willing to make more loans to consumers, demand for loans rising," said Omair Sharif, an economist at RBS in Stamford, Connecticut.

"That would push the ratio higher, but that's not necessarily a such a bad thing, especially if rates are so low and you are able to service that debt."

Robin Hood's Sandy efforts: A holiday story - The Term Sheet ...

By Andy Serwer, managing editor

The Robin Hood Foundation's David Saltzman

The Robin Hood Foundation's David Saltzman

FORTUNE -- The evidence that people all over the world love New York City is the 50 million visitors who come here each year. But maybe a truer and deeper measure of affection are the countless individuals from around the globe who have stepped up this holiday season to help the city and the surrounding areas recover from the devastation brought on by Hurricane Sandy.

Though millions of individuals and companies (including Fortune) have volunteered and donated time, money and material in many forms and to myriad organizations, New York City's Robin Hood Foundation both spearheaded the effort in many ways and serves as reliable proxy for what has been done. In short: the numbers have been equally impressive and heart-warming. And more money and help continues to pour in.

Robin Hood has already distributed $17.6 million to scores of organizations on the front lines?with tens of millions of dollars more standing at the ready, much of it raised at its blockbuster 12/12/12 Concert for Sandy Relief benefit. In large part because of the concert, which was broadcast to more than 2 billion households worldwide, $50 million in donations have come in from all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and all major U.S. territories and protectorates including Guam and Puerto Rico, as well as from 85 countries around the world.

MORE:?After?Sandy, a Seaport caf? fights to rebuild

"The whole world has created a global community of caring," says Robin Hood executive director David Saltzman. Just this past week Robin Hood received 2,000 checks versus a typical week of less than 100. But the need is still great, says Saltzman, who notes that some 600,000 homes were badly damaged or destroyed. Ditto 500,000 businesses. "At first it was food, blankets and medicine. Now it's rebuilding," he says. (Note: 100 cents of every dollar given to Robin Hood goes directly to charitable organizations that are monitored for effectiveness. See Fortune's 2006 story The legend of Robin Hood).

Soon after the storm hit, Robin Hood set up a relief committee which includes board chair Lee Ainslie, Managing Partner of Maverick Capital, board member Victoria Bjorklund, partner at Simpson Thatcher, as well as former board member Dirk Ziff, along with Peter Kiernan of Kiernan Ventures and Peter Borish, CEO of Computer Trading Corp. The committee quickly tapped into its deep network of Fortune 500 companies and executives to create a list of corporate partners for the 12/12/12/ concert that reads like a Who's Who of business. From presenting partner Chase, to GE, Blackrock, State Farm, Delta, Pepsi, Time Warner Cable and NRG, to foreign companies like Hyundai, Samsung and Nestle subsidiary Poland Spring, to digital partners; Foursquare, Google, Facebook, PayPal, Shazam and Twitter, to event organizers Madison Square Garden, Clear Channel and the Weinstein Company. Indeed, the number of businesses helping out was exceeded only by the roster of pro bono rockers which included The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Alicia Keys, The Who, Kanye West and on and on. (The concert is available at iTunes. Proceeds go to Robin Hood.)

MORE:?How Facebook and Twitter changed disaster relief

The effect of Sandy was so huge it has caused Robin Hood to alter its mandate, if only temporarily. Until now Robin Hood has stuck strictly to its mission of fighting poverty and helping those in need in New York City. But in this case, "we decided to work in hard hit areas in New Jersey, Long Island and Westchester," says Saltzman. "The hurricane didn't respect boundaries drawn by human beings."? Millions in the New York City area, and indeed around the world are taking joy in that decision and indeed in Robin Hood's efforts overall.

Happy Holidays!

Ford hybrids hot sellers despite mileage concerns

Ford's C-Max hybrid has become the fastest-selling hybrid ever, even as Ford deals with discrepancies between the car's real-world gas mileage and its EPA rating.?

By Antony Ingram,?Guest blogger / December 22, 2012

A Ford 2013 Ford C-MAX Hybrid vehicle is seen on display outside the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Mich, last month. The C-Max has become the fastest-selling hybrid ever in its first two month on the market, according to Ford.

Ford may yet have to account for discrepancies between real-world mileage and EPA ratings on its hybrids, but any issues certainly aren't harming its sales.

The company reports that the C-Max hybrid has become the fastest-selling hybrid ever, with 8,030 units sold in its first two months on sale.

By comparison, the Toyota Camry Hybrid sold 7,300 units in its first two months on sale, May and June 2006.

Between C-Max Hybrid and the plug-in Energi hybrid, sales are three times that of the combined launch sales of the first-generation Toyota Prius and Honda Insight back in 2000.

We'd interject at this point and suggest that the latter statistic isn't surprising in the least, given that, like electric cars today, hybrids were very much new, unusual and disruptive technology back in 2000.

Samsung unveils Galaxy Grand smartphone with 5-inch screen - @latimes

Samsung has added another 5-inch screen phone to its Galaxy line-up, introducing a new device with a mid-range price.

The South Korean company announced the Galaxy Grand early Tuesday morning. The phone is similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note II, the company's 5.5-inch-screen phone that is available from most U.S. carriers for $300 on a new contract.

Samsung declined to say how the device would be priced, but mid-range smartphones typically sell for about $100 to $150 with a contract.

Although the Galaxy Grand has a large display, many of its specifications fall short compared with the Galaxy Note II, as one would expect with a mid-range phone.

PHOTOS: Top 10 tech products of 2012

For starters, the phone's WVGA display isn't HD, with just an 800-by-480-pixel resolution. The Galaxy Grand's 1.2 GHz dual-core processor is also less powerful than the Galaxy Note II's, and the Galaxy Grand doesn't come with the S Pen stylus.

The phone, however, does run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and it features an 8-megapixel rear camera. Additionally, the Galaxy Grand has 8 GB of storage, which can be expanded with a microSD card.?

Samsung did not provide details regarding when the phone might come to the U.S. or which network will carry it.

Wordstock Book Review: The Night She Disappeared by April Henry ...

Every October Wordstock descends on Portland and writers, publishers, bookstores and readers flock to the Portland Convention Center to soak it all in. This year I came away with several good book suggestions. This week I?ll be reviewing books by the authors speaking on Wordstock?s Young Adult stage.

Next up is The Night She Disappeared by April Henry.

Gabie does a favor for Kayla when she switches work nights at the take-out pizza restaurant. When Kayla goes missing following a delivery, Gabie learns that the caller asked for her. Is Kayla alive? Was Kayla?s fate meant for her? With the help of her co-worker Drew, Gabie searches for answers. When all others give up, it is Gabie that believes Kayla is still alive. Author April Henry adds fictional police reports, 911 calls, notes, missing posters and other material to lead the story along on its taut course. A thrilling, fast-paced read for the young adult audience.

I've just signed a book contract. Now what? My name is Lisa Ard. I'm a stay-at-home mom living in Portland, Oregon. I spent over fifteen years working in corporate America -- in Finance and Quality. That means that I know very little about publishing a book. I'm about to learn. While I'm on this adventure, I plan to post my experiences in writing and publishing. Last look at Earthrise, 40 years later

Ronald Evans / NASA file

Earth rises above the moon's Ritz Crater in a view captured on Dec. 14, 1972, by Apollo 17's Ronald Evans.

By Alan Boyle

Forty years ago today, human beings took their last steps on the moon, and had their last look at Earth framed by the lunar horizon. There have been other pictures from the moon since then, of course, but they've all been seen secondhand, based on data sent back by robotic probes. No humans have seen an Earthrise like this one with their own eyes since Apollo 17's crew began their homeward journey on Dec. 14, 1972.

For Andrew Chaikin ? author of "A Man on the Moon," the definitive history of the Apollo moon effort?? the 40th anniversary of our lunar farewell is a cause for reflection.

When Chaikin was a 16-year-old outer-space fanatic, he attended Apollo 17's night launch at Kennedy Space Center, thanks to a letter he wrote to his congressman asking for a VIP pass.?"It was the only part of 'Man on the Moon' that I wrote from personal experience," he told me.

Chaikin said the 12-day mission ended the Apollo program "on the highest note possible."

"By the time of Apollo 17, those guys ? not just the astronauts, but the flight controllers and the planners, the whole team?? they were really on top of their game," Chaikin said. "It was a spectacular mission scientifically. They landed in an absolutely spectacular place. They took some of the most memorable photographs of all the Apollo missions."

Today, Chaikin posted a video that sums up the significance of Apollo 17 as well as the importance of keeping the moon on our agenda for exploration. The five-minute clip includes an amazing view of the lunar module's ascent module rising into the sky, transmitted from a remote-control video camera that was left on the moon's surface.

Chaikin hopes that astronauts will follow through on the implied promise in the words that Apollo 17 commander Gene Cernan spoke just before climbing up from the lunar surface: "We leave as we came and, God willing, as we shall return, with peace and hope for all mankind," Cernan said.

Five days later, Cernan and his two crewmates, Harrison Schmitt and Ronald Evans, rode their command module through Earth's atmosphere and splashed down safely in the Pacific Ocean?? marking the end of NASA's last round trip to the moon. Most Americans weren't even alive when that happened. So how many people living today will still be around when the next moonwalk takes place??

"I don't think we realize how exciting it's going to be when we can see the moon rise, knowing that people are living there, working to make humans a multiplanet species," Chaikin says in the video. "And when they come home, they can share with us one of the moon's most precious gifts: the sight of the earth, breathtakingly beautiful as an oasis of life in the void."

To mark the 40th anniversary of the last human footsteps on the moon, "Man on the Moon" author Andrew Chaikin looks back at Apollo 17's explorations and explains why he believes the moon is the solar system's "jewel in the crown," beckoning us to return.

Today's anniversary, recalling our species' grandest voyages, comes amid a shocking episode in Connecticut that highlights our species' violent tendencies. It was that way for the Aurora theater shootings as well, which took place on the anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. Will there ever come a time when the brighter side of our nature, exemplified by the peaceful Apollo program, finally wins out over the dark side? That's one more thing to reflect on over the weekend...

Here are some of your own reflections, selected from the comments you've left over the past week on earlier installments of our Apollo 17 coverage:

Astropreneur:

"December of 2022 isn't that far away. At the rate we are going, and with the uncertainty and lack of focus we are experiencing regarding our manned space exploration program, I'm afraid the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 17 mission will pass without any new footprints having been made on the moon's surface by American astronauts.

"How would our lives be today if after 20 or 30 flights the Wright brothers dismantled their airplane and no one else flew for the next 50 years?

"Are we any better off now for not having continued our manned flights to the moon, and perhaps beyond?

"Will we sleep forever? America must awaken or we will find ourselves trailing behind the new leaders who will pick up the torch we long ago dropped.

"Awaken, American spirit of exploration! Arise as you once did so long ago! I miss you."

Elizabeth-1372999:

"That flight stood out, like the first flight to the moon. I can remember some of the highlights: a geologist looking at rocks, giving a reason to go to space beyond the Cold War; the 'blue marble' and a reminder that we are the one habitable planet in the solar system, so we had better keep this planet healthy. The 'Merry Merry Month of December' was funny, but at the time, also a little bit of concern: There was a worry that the breathing apparatus had a problem. What made him sing was the low gravity; he found it fun to skip on the moon because each jump covered a lot of distance, and that was visible on television (something the moonshot deniers should notice).

"I don't think of them as the last astronauts on the moon, but the most recent. It was a shock when my daughter saw videos of Neil Armstrong's moon landing in school, and I realized that another moon landing had not happened in her life. She is much older now, and my grandson has never seen a moon landing, and more and more funding is being cut, even though information from the space program is still coming to us. Look at the information from the asteroid projects and the xenon rocket. The space program is such a small part of our budget as is. It seems that every time budgets are cut, the space program suffers, schools suffer, and children have less and less to feel proud of."

Rick Carter:

?"The next step for mankind is to become a celestial being. Short of that, mankind is destined to become just become one more extinct species in the vast cosmos. It is only by moving out into that vast cosmos that we see a true reflection of ourselves."

FarmerJeani:

"In 1969, I sat in my sister's living room with my grandmother and watched Neil Armstrong walk on the moon. My grandmother reminisced about her life as we watched. Her father took part in the run for Indian Territory in Oklahoma. She and her siblings stayed with relatives in St. Louis while her parents built a cabin to house them. She liked to stand in the window and watch the lamplighter come around with his horse and buggy to light the gas street lights. She was educated on the farm by an old Cherokee woman who had been to finishing school in Europe, but forced on the long 'trail of tears' march to Indian Territory in 1838-39. She lost all of her family on the way. My great-grandfather eventually sold the farm and bought a store in town. Grandma married a farmer and moved back to Indian Territory, where she raised nine children without the benefit of electricity. All their water was carried from the creek, light was provided by kerosene lanterns and homemade candles. My children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren can never fully appreciate the grandeur of the moment as seen through my grandmother's eyes. It was an epic accomplishment and I have no doubt that we will return???to the moon and to many other worlds."

Bbbbmer:

"We truly are a great nation at times?? if only we'd remember that."

Troy-2251798:

"My fear is that, in this day and age, America will go to the moon (and/or Mars) and treat it in the usual, selfish, utilitarian way. We have already screwed this planet up. Now they are considering going elsewhere. Of course, once we're there, we'll screw that up too.?Here's an 'out-of-this-world' thought: Focus on population control and conservation to limit how badly we're screwing up the one and only world we're ever going to have."

EarlyOut-1524710:

"Planting a radio telescope on the far side of the moon, shielded from the radio noise generated by all of our technology, might well provide the kind of scientific bonanza that Hubble has created.

"That's what's lacking in most the moon mission proposals: the promise of being able to carry out some real science. Most of the proponents of a lunar return offer little more than, 'It would be neat to go back and look around some more.' That's a little vague, given the cost and danger involved."

Pb in CA:

"Somebody explain to me why going to the surface of the moon is valuable. There is nothing there of any value.
OK, I've heard the idea of building a radio receiver on the far side. But, it would be more cost-effective to build a very-long-baseline radio receiver system using a fleet of satellites that stay in low-moon orbit, and half the time are shielded from earth radio noise.

"If we are willing to accept the fact that robots are much better adapted to carrying out missions in space, then we can have a sustainable, affordable space exploration program. The Augustine Commission got it right in this regard. Personally, I have no problem in thinking of robots as extensions of humans, and saying 'we are exploring the surface of Mars' currently with Curiosity.

"Here are the advantages of robots vs. humans on the moon:
- Robots can stay indefinitely - no return trip to Earth
- Energy supply is sun power - no need to take air, food and water
- Very close communication to humans back on Earth - 2.5-second round trip
- Cost of a mission is 1:2000 compared to sending humans

"What is gained by sending humans?" ?

Cheezeweggie:

"I can't believe that we are trillions of dollars in debt and the government is seriously considering cutting health care for the elderly ? but we can even consider borrowing money to go to the moon. Clean up the mess, then spend money on 'toys.' America can't afford this right now."

Stargazermom123:

"Yes, we're in bad shape here on Earth. In many ways. But we were born to look out and dream ... to explore. We went to the moon ... we have rovers on Mars, [including] one working years after it was supposed to die. Voyager 1 is reaching the end of our solar system, and will soon be beyond it ??our first UFO. If we don't go back to the moon ... go to Mars ... [and] go beyond that someday, when we solve our petty differences here on Earth and put our minds to developing the mechanism to go outward into the unknown, what do we have to look forward to? What do young people have to dream about? When I stand outside on a clear night and look out at all the stars, I often wonder if anyone is looking back. Looking back and dreaming of places unknown and things never before seen, just as I am."

McAfee: I'll answer questions in 'neutral country'

2 hrs.

Anti-virus software pioneer John McAfee insists he "had nothing to do" with the killing of his neighbor in Belize, telling CNBC on Friday he would answer questions about the slaying in a neutral country.

McAfee is now in Miami after being deported on Wednesday from Guatemala, where he sneaked in illegally from Belize."I'm certainly not going to turn myself in to the authorities [there], who've been trying to lay hands on me," he said on "Squawk Box."?

John McAfee: ?I Will Not Be Charged With This?

"I had nothing to do with the murder of Gregory Faull," McAfee said. "I spoke 50 words to that man. ? I did not have a history with him."McAfee, 67, has been on the run for a month from Belizean authorities, who term him a "person of interest" in the Nov. 11 death of his neighbor. McAfee said there's no truth to speculation of bad blood with the neighbor.

"He complained about my dogs. But every neighbor complained about my dogs. I complained about my dogs. They kept me awake, too. I was trying to fix the problem." ?

McAfee: ?I?m Prepared to Go All the Way?

No charges have been filed against McAfee. "I will not be charged with this," he said.

Belize does have extradition with the U.S., but only for suspected criminals. Should he be charged, he said, he'd face and fight them.?

McAfee?s Unusual Gospel of Wealth Led Him to Belize

As founder of the McAfee anti-virus software company, he was worth over $100 million at one point. When he moved to Belize in 2009, he told The New York Times he had only $4 million left after the financial crisis.

Addressing speculation that he's now worth $20 million, McAfee told CNBC he doesn't know exactly how much money he has, but it's "less than $5 million." He said he fears that the government of Belize is going to seize his assets.?

Christmas Tree's Genes Date to Dinosaur Age

If you were to travel back in time 100 million years to look for your Christmas tree, you would find firs nearly identical to the ones sold today.

New research shows that the genome of conifers ? a division that includes spruces, pines and firs ? has hardly changed since the days of the dinosaurs.

This stability means there are far fewer species within the taxonomic group today, compared with other types of plants that have splintered off into thousands of different species. Consider, for example, just 600 species of conifers exist today, while more than 400,000 species of flowering plants, or angiosperms, dot the Earth.

"Conifers appear to have achieved a balance with their environment very early," Jean Bousquet, of the Universit? Laval in Canada, said in a statement. "Still today, without artifice, these plants thrive over much of the globe, particularly in cold climates. In contrast, flowering plants are under intense evolutionary pressure as they battle for survival and reproduction."

Conifers and flowering plants diverged from a common ancestor some 300 million years ago. Bousquet's team compared the genomes of the two plant groups, focusing on 527 spruce genes that fit into 157 gene families; results suggested angiosperms have undergone major changes in the last 100 million years, while conifers have remained particularly unchanged.

"That doesn't mean there haven't been smaller-scale modifications such as genetic mutations," noted Bousquet. "However, the macrostructure of the conifer genome has been remarkably stable over the ages."

A 2005 study detailed in the journal Science found that the conifers' plumbing system might be the secret to their success. The trees carry water up their trunks with tiny, single-celled parallel pipes called "tracheids." These pipes are smaller than those of angiosperms, which would seem to make water flow less efficient in conifers. However, the evergreens have 10 times as many valves (places where the pipes connect) than flowering plants. If conifers hadn't evolved this efficient system, they would have been at a disadvantage in the competition for water.

The new research was published online in October in the journal BMC Biology.

Dodgers on track to pass Yanks in '13 payroll

By RONALD BLUM

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 8:56 p.m. ET Dec. 12, 2012

NEW YORK (AP) - The Los Angeles Dodgers are on track to become only the second major league team with a $200 million payroll and could end the New York Yankees' streak of 14 years as baseball's biggest spender.

The Dodgers are at $214.8 million for 21 signed players next season, according to a study of their contracts by The Associated Press. That follows last weekend's additions of free agent pitcher Zack Greinke for a $147 million, six-year contract and South Korean pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin for a $36 million, six-year deal.

"Creating a lot of buzz, that's for sure," Greinke said. "And you do wonder when things are going to stop."

Crediting the $3.9 million Boston is paying Los Angeles next year as part of last August's trade and not counting the portions of signing bonuses for players obtained from the Red Sox, the Dodgers' 2013 payroll currently is at $207.9 million.

The Yankees have led each year since the Baltimore Orioles edged them by $200,000 in 1998, and New York has been at $200 million-plus every season since 2005. The record opening-day payroll of $209.1 million was set by the Yankees in 2008.

"I don't that there's anybody that can keep up with what the Dodgers are doing," Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said.

Los Angeles, almost certain to pay the luxury tax next year, has joined the high rollers since the Dodgers were bought in May by Mark Walter's group, which also includes Magic Johnson and Stan Kasten.

"When we took over the team we said we were going to spend money and I guess you guys are seeing that we're trying to do that," Johnson said. "We're not messing around. We're not talking about it, we're doing it."

Under outgoing owner Frank McCourt, they started the season with the 12th-highest payroll at $94.7 million. They boosted spending with the midseason acquisitions of Hanley Ramirez, Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Brandon League.

The Dodgers finished 86-76 last season, eight games behind the eventual World Series champion San Francisco Giants in the NL West. The Dodgers haven't reached the World Series since winning the title in 1988.

In addition to their players with agreements, the Dodgers have two players eligible for salary arbitration: catcher A.J. Ellis and right-hander Ronald Belisario.

"We're here to win. I can't tell you if we're stopping or not," Johnson said.

New York's 2013 payroll is at $176 million for 13 players, including a $12 million deal for third baseman Kevin Youkilis that hasn't been finalized. Four Yankees are eligible for arbitration: pitchers Phil Hughes, David Robertson, Joba Chamberlain and Boone Logan.

The deals for Greinke and Ryu contain numerous complicated provisions and perks.

Greinke gets a $12 million signing bonus, of which $7 million is payable by Dec. 31 and $5 million on Feb. 1, 2014. He gets a $17 million salary next year, $24 million in 2014, $23 million in 2015, $24 million in 2016, $23 million in 2017 and $24 million in 2018.

He can opt out of the final three years of the contract within three days of the final game of the 2015 World Series.

While Greinke doesn't have a no-trade provision, if he's dealt during the season he can decide within three days of the end of the World Series whether to terminate the contract. And if he's traded during the offseason, he gets an extra $3 million and has the right to end the deal immediately.

In addition, for the 2018 season only, he gets $1 million for winning the Cy Young Award and $500,000 for finishing second through fifth. Greinke also has the right to purchase four premium tickets for all home games.

Ryu gets a $5 million signing bonus, half due on April 1 and the rest on April 1, 2014. His salaries are $2.5 million next year, $3.5 million in 2014, $4 million in 2015 and $7 million in each of the following three seasons. He can earn an additional $1 million annually in performance bonuses, $250,000 each for 170, 180, 190 and 200 innings.

If he has 750 innings pitched from 2013-17, he can opt out of the final season. If he wins the Cy Young Award, his salaries for remaining seasons would increase by $1 million. They would go up by $750,000 if he finishes second, $500,000 if he finishes third and $250,000 if he finishes fourth or fifth.

He has the same opt-out rights as Greinke, but without the $3 million payment, and he can't be sent to the minor leagues without his consent.

Ryu gets a $30,000 moving allowance, eight annual first-class round-trip tickets from Los Angeles to South Korea, an employee assigned to Korean media needs, and interpreter, a personal trainer/massage therapist, English lessons and payment for immigration fees.

The contract gives him the right to wear No. 99 and allows him access to purchase premium tickets. He gets a suite on the road but pays the difference between the cost of a suite and a regular room.
